Revision: 1.0
Date: 10/22/2010
Problem:
When running Enterprise Random Password Manager (ERPM) on Windows Vista/2008 or later and attempting to perform a password change on a Windows 2000 target system where propagation is involved which targets the COM/DCOM system, error 1783 may occur with the following message:

[D2KWS27] Propagation failed for type 'COM+ Applications'; error: 1783 - The stub received bad data.
This results in a job failure.
Cause:
There are security incompatibilities between the Windows 2000 COM system and the Vista and later COM system. See Microsoft's KB article: 971153
Resolution:
As per the Microsoft article, Lieberman Software has provided a compatibility database for ERPM when managing Windows 2000 from Vista/2008 or later operating systems. The file can be downloaded from here: http://ftp.liebsoft.com/forumkbdownl...2000Access.sdb
NOTE: This can only be installed on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 r2 both 32 and 64 bit editions.
To install the patch -- Close ERPM
- Open a command prompt and navigate to the download directory
- run "sdbinst ERPMVistaTo2000Access.sdb" without the quotes
- Launch the ERPM use normally
